Citing a lack of training opportunities available to students following the stay-at-home order issued by the provincial government on Jan 12th, organizers have cancelled the SDSSAA alpine ski and snowboard season this school year. With a beginner focus and the need to properly train students before racing in competition, consensus was that races could not be hosted to a safe standard under present conditions.
The SDSSAA Nordic Ski season will now feature one preliminary race, conditions permitting, followed by the city finals. Prelim 1 – Wed, Feb 17 @ Onaping Falls Nordic, Tue, Feb 23 (cities) @ Naughton (back up date Wed, Feb 24). Closer to the season start, consideration will be given towards adding a second prelim and bumping cities by one week.
Due to the extended lockdown and stay-at-home order, SDSSAA girls’ volleyball and curling seasons will be delayed. Coaches will be consulted on possible ways forward in the weeks to come, dependent upon the covid status in place for the Sudbury Region at that point in time.
